Gadebridge Park Run – Making Progress

I had a cricket match for school today, but knew Claire was also leaving the house early. I had just enough time to go to the Gadebridge park run. This is a free event where you run with a 100ish other runners an deceive a time. I had done one of these previously and recorded my fastest time of 23:41 for a 5k race.
In my mind these park runs are a good way to test my level of fitness. I guess in the end I am looking to run a sub 20 minute 5k.

Today I did not want to set off as fast as I did last time and get carried away. I maintained a stead 4.25min/km pace for the first km. There are two serious hill climbs on this 5k which eek out the energy from your body as you plod your way up them. I managed to maintain pace and came in with a time of 22.00 minutes exactly, 1 minute 40 faster than my previous.

I am really pleased with this time because I am now running a whole minute per km quicker than when I started.

Looking into next week I have not done a long in in a while so I will probably look to do a couple of 7km runs followed by a 10-12 km at the end of the week.
