On Saturday this week, I met with some fellow runners from Gade Valley Harriers. While mostly a road running club with a great reputation for marathon training runs, there are a number who are moving into Ultra Running.
We chose to run around the Centurion Wendover Woods course. The course has been designed in a small homage to the Barclay Marathons route incorporating such names as “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” and “Powerline Descent”.
It was an interesting navigation challenge but makes really good use of the Woodland area to get 10 miles out of it. I am not convinced enough to sign up for the race because I am not a huge fan of Ultra’s that loop, because if I am going to run a long way I actually want to feel like I have travelled somewhere. Also, much of the course is in the forest, so the views are limited. It is great if you want a 50 or 100 mile challenge, but I will need more views.
The Wendover Woods route is also great if you are looking for reasonable elevation, 650m in 16km, so I may well end up using the route in my training for Lakeland 50.
So to end the week I completed another 10 mile run to Dunstable Downs. It was very overcrowded, with lots of rubbish lying around. I think it is imperative that the pubs reopen, which I will think will attract many of the people who are causing such harm to the environment all across the country at the moment.
So to end the week I have complete 5 runs (One recorded in two sections) with 5hrs 20mins running.
Over 100m elevation which is great, and a back to back long run. Next week I am going to try and get over 60km for the week. Let’s hope for a quiet week at work!
