Top Form World Cup

It is time for the Top Form World Cup! A few years ago I gained this great idea to help pupils learn locations using gamification.

The idea is pupils compete against each other in a football style game while answering questions on locations around the world. If they get the question right they move up the field, if they get it wrong they can move back down the field. At the end of the session they receive three points for a win, one for a draw and none if they lose. All these points go into the league table. Their homework for the week is to learn their locations for the next week.

It motivates the pupils because they know who they are playing and they usually want to do well against that person in the table.

As well as being great fun I have found it helps the pupils learn otherwise difficult locations more effectively because they are motivated by the gamification aspect.

It is always a fun time of year in the Geography department and I enjoy being the ref!
